‘GREEN’ IS OUT

  • The two of us have been working on music together for over a year, exploring new effects, timbres, and throwing anything we can at Ableton to see what sticks. ‘Green’ took shape last March as we applied our findings: field recordings of the wind and city, textured microsounds, recursive warping and resampling, and callbacks to our shared but distinct Chinese heritage.

Lyrically, Green is about reconnecting with nature and a yearning desire to wander and to explore again when life has you stagnating in the city.

Yet Green’s also a reflection of our journeys with music, wandering through new soundscapes, soaking in everything we can, embracing the unknown. The hardest journey we’ve ever embarked on was finding ourselves—only made possible through countless hours in the studio together and everyone we’ve had the pleasure of working with and learning from.

From us to you with love, we hope you enjoy Green. Out now 🌱

QI MING & THE SISYPHUS BAND

  • The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man's heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy.

    Albert Camus

  • Inspired by Portuguese author Fernando Pessoa's "The Book of Disquiet," this album delves into the fragmented autobiography of my 9 split Sisyphus-like personalities. An exploration of the relentless pursuit of meaning and unity in a world devoid of eternal truths. Blended acoustic style with jazz, East Asian and Latin American influences, using a diverse array of timbres, instruments, and rhythms to enrich the narrative.

  • Inspired by Camus's absurd philosophy in "The Myth of Sisyphus", songs in the album portray different characters' lives with the condition of Sisyphus who repeatedly pushes the stone uphill and support the belief that the struggle to reach a height is enough to fill a person's heart, people should imagine Sisyphus as happy.

OTHER WORKS

  • Aspiring to revive ethnic folk music, I arrange and accompany traditional a cappella songs from my Zhuang minority. Here are three audio samples of these songs, all from our ethnic group, with a history spanning hundreds of years but never properly scored. I personally learned them from an elderly woman in my hometown's mountain area. These songs have been passed down through generations via oral tradition, enabling them to endure.

  • This emotionally narrative first EP came after the death of Leonard Cohen, my favorite song writer and spiritual shepherd. This is my beginning of serious song writing. The lyrics reveals the confrontation, reconciliation between Cohen and God.
